The following is a verse from The Secrets of Earth Magic: A front door at the northeast position allows ghosts to enter;
Because not one of the three yangs shine upon that spot,
Through portals of extreme yin,
Ghosts enter and converge.
Making noises in walls and all sorts of disturbances,
They causing mischief in dark places,
Hiding among the banana leaves.
The ken (northeast) position on a geomantic compass is associated with the presence of ghosts. A front door installed at the northeast position is known as a "ghost door" in feng-shui. It is a spot of "extreme yin," "not shone upon by the three kinds of yang." Most ghosts will enter houses with ghost doors and hide themselves in dim and dark places, dark bedrooms, or areas with potted plants.
Though one may have positioned one's bed correctly inside the bedroom, fitful sleep and dreams of demons and monsters may still plague. The presence of ghosts converging to steal one's chi can leave one in a state of complete exhaustion.
If a door is a northeast door and one becomes pregnant, it is possible that one will have an unusual pregnancy or a strange looking baby. There will be odd signs during the pregnancy, and the child may be mute or deaf. In some cases, one may think one is pregnant, but instead, find a tumor or cyst in the belly.
In the past I had inspected the feng-shui of a house that was haunted.
The owner asked me, "Why is my house haunted?"
I replied, "The front door is at the northeast ghost door position."
"But everything was fine at the beginning when we first moved in," the owner retorted.
"There must have been a death in the family which then led the ghosts to come in."
"When did this happen?"
"Two years ago."
At this point, the owner nodded and agreed with me. Two years ago, his mother died, and funeral services were performed for three months in the home. Ever since, family members had been afflicted with endless nightmares and strange things often occurred inside the house. His wife had an operation to remove a uterine fibroid tumor and had been sick ever since. There was much unrest in the household.
I instructed the owner to remove the northeast ghost door.
The situation could have been more serious if, in addition to having a northeast door, the house had been a large mansion without much sunlight shining upon it. It might have even turned into a ghost market with ghosts converging to do business. Then it would truly have been a wonder if people could live in such houses peacefully.
In addition to a northeast ghost door, one should also pay attention to the following factors that may turn a house into a home for ghosts and demons:
Any damage to the wall of the house should be promptly repaired.
Corridors should be connected to living areas. Do not leave any space between the two.
An open space must not take the shape of a coffin.
Pay attention to small sheds behind the house to ensure that they do not look like coffins.
Avoid placing houseplants in spots high in yin chi.
Negligence in the above areas may invite ghosts to gather.
Why should one quickly repair damage to the walls of a house? Ghosts are fond of houses with ruined walls because coffins are stored in similar sites. To ghosts, coffin-shaped open areas and spaces between corridors and living areas are often mistaken for coffins. The same reasoning applies to a small shed built behind the main house. Such small sheds will appear to be coffins to the ghosts. Potted plants in places with an accumulation of yin chi also invite a convergence of ghosts.
I, Living Buddha Lian-sheng, have encountered numerous ghosts in my life. By nature, ghosts are mischievous, but they are also straightforward and simple. I am not afraid of them. In fact, I am more afraid of human beings than ghosts. Many humans are manipulative and deceptive and more frightening than any ghost.
As a Tantrayana practioner, I know how to perform "food offerings," "transformation of nectar" rituals, and "soul deliverances." I make it a habit to perform these three rituals every other day at home. Because of this, many ghosts also converge at my house! They come not because there are features that give rise to haunted houses, but rather because I summon them to come. I am sympathetic to them and perform deliverance rituals to help them. Ghosts are also sentient beings.
I have been performing these rituals solely out of compassion, expecting nothing in return. After all, attaining rebirth into this world is not always an easy task, and if I can do something to benefit others, it is my wish to do as much as I can.
