Face Reading or Mian Xiang is the Chinese art of physiognomy, which takes a look at the shape, features, contours and hues of the face to reveal an individual's personality, potential and destiny in life. As the face is an excellent instrument of communication, there is so much you can learn about a person without a word said.

So how do you tell an honest face? First, take a look at the face shape: It must be square-shaped with a wide forehead. This indicates people who can easily earn the trust and respect of others. It also signifies their high level of intelligence and kind-heartedness. Next, check for a big, closed mouth as well, as this means the individual is honest, conservative and reliable.

That said, you may want to take note of a person with such a face coupled with a protruding jawbone as this feature indicates a stubborn nature. However, being steady and strong-willed can also denote someone who has a strong sense of principles.

Take these facial features into consideration to guide you in your decision to hire this person for the job. Once you've learnt more on how to gauge a person's character at a glance, you will never look at a face the same way again.

Paris Hilton Vs Ivanka Trump

They are quite evenly stacked when it comes to family, wealth, fame and glamour. But who is the more successful? The first of a four-part series on face reading.

IN the battle of the heiresses, most would place their bets on the classy Ivanka Trump over sleazy, party-loving Paris Hilton.

With Ivanka's real estate degree from the prestigious Wharton School of Finance, her pedigree upbringing and osmosis learning from billionaire father Donald Trump, shouldn't this frosty beauty deliver the trump card over skanky Paris?Wrong.

From the perspective of wealth, Paris is surprisingly ahead of the game. Her features have all the ratifications of a more cunning businesswoman, especially her burgeoning nose bulb — a sure sign of a savvy money manager.

Let's take a look at the wealth palace of both heiresses, the nose. While both have long, elegant noses, Paris has an extremely obvious bulge at the tip of hers, which is quite uncommon for a girl. This feature is mostly present in shrewd businessmen.

Paris' nose bridge is very high, indicating a strong sense of self-reliance and a ''can-do'' attitude. No, she does not want to rely on daddy or anyone else to make it. Her nose has the I-will-show-you-I-can-do-it attribute.

When you combine her nose with her eye spirit (the most important factor in determining current luck), her protruding eyebrow bone and spearheaded eyebrows, you can tell this is one domineering lady who is tenacious when it comes to achieving success.

Throw in Paris' nostrils, which cannot be seen from the front, and you have a money-making machine who plays up her bimbo behaviour to ensure the bucks flow in exponentially.
As much as people may view her as an airhead, she's the one with the successful clothes line, books, perfume, bags, reality shows and guest appearance income.

Undeniably, her bulging parents palace also indicates ample resources from her family. Nonetheless, Paris herself is resourceful enough to capitalise on the Hilton brand name.
Ivanka's long aquiline nose is slender and high, with equally wide nose wings. Her nose tip also bulges out, indicating financial savvy. However, her nose holes are slightly exposed, which denotes a risk-taking streak.

Hence, like her father, she may make investments which are sometimes good, and sometimes bad. But as her current eye spirit is strong, fortune is on her side.

She also has spearheaded eyebrows, which indicates a lady who is determined to make it on her own.

While Ivanka has her own business in her jewellery collection, the popularity and reach of her blings do not quite match Paris' line of products.

Nose aside, Paris' intelligence is clear to see. She has the bigger mouth, with an obviously thicker lower lip. To put it simply:

Paris is streetwise and wily, a woman who is able to separate work from play, and love from pleasure. She is definitely the more famous heiress of the two, as can be seen from her bell-shaped laughter lines. However, these lines are very tight, which means that although she enjoys immense fame, she does not get much respect.

Her wider chin (also known as the hired help palace) is a lot more spacious compared to Ivanka's, indicating lots of help and support from all the right people.

If there's anyone who can say, ''Don't take it personally, it's only business'', it is Paris Hilton and not the Donald's daughter.

Ivanka, with her rosebud and full balanced lips, is a gentle and sentimental soul who basks in praise and recognition from those who matter. She is principled and truthful. She wears her heart on her sleeve, and this is further seen in her big, limpid eyes.

Like Paris, her parents palace is bulging, which indicates that Ivanka always has the Trump trust fund she can dip her fingers into, should any catastrophe befall her.

Paris, with her long and small eyes, is foxy and does things for her own gain. Who cares if people see her as a dumb blonde who graduated from the School of Men? After all, Sun Tzu did say that all warfare is based on deception.

As her eyes are quite sunken, it is obvious that she isn't doing too well in her personal life. Perhaps relationships — or the lack of that — with family members or boyfriends are troubling her.

Given their facial attributes, which of the two makes the better and more informed decision?
Based on the mouth, it would be Paris.

Googling through the many images of Ivanka, it was pretty difficult to find a single picture which showed her mouth fully closed, and face, relaxed. A mouth like hers normally indicates decisions made that are not for the best; perhaps they were influenced by consensus opinions and the latest fads.

So, if both Paris and Ivanka were stocks, we'd call a buy on the former.

One of the most common reasons why people turn to Face Reading is for relationship issues, or problems. When it comes to romance and matters of the heart, Face Reading can indeed be a tool as a means of evaluating the type of person one is getting involved with, and how committed they are to the relationship at hand.

Certain features can indeed determine better relationship luck:

Eyebrows

1. Long eyebrows denote a sentimental and empathetic personality who values ties with other people, while short eyebrows denote a hasty and temperamental personality.

2. For females, it's desirable that they have New Moon or Willow Leaf eyebrows. The former indicates that they'll be supportive and understanding towards their husband, while the latter denotes good affinity with the opposite sex, and the ability to care for the home.

Nose

1. A long, straight, and tall nose on a female indicates her ability to enhance her husband's luck and bring out his potential.

2. Since the nose represents the Wealth and Spouse Star for females, a good-quality nose on a woman indicates good husband luck.

3. A nose that is very high and tall, in proportion to the rest of the face, indicates a very strong ego - and the inability to bend or back down to a partner's will!

Temples

1. The temples at the sides of the forehead, near the corners of the eyes. This denotes the Spouse Palace for both men and women.

2. Clear and fleshy temples denote a good relationship with the spouse, while scars, dents, veins, moles or discolouration suggest problems and arguments.

Cheekbones

It's not desirable for a female to have high, prominent cheekbones - especially when coupled with a high, strong and bony nose. It means a controlling and domineering personality, one that will 'control' the husband too much.

Eyes

1. Long, slender eyes with clearly defined pupils and whites bode well for romantic relationships. This denotes a person with a clear heart and mind, unencumbered with worries or excess emotional baggage.

2. Eyes that are too small denote problems with communication and empathy. These people will not express what's really on their mind, which can lead to long-term issues.

3. Too-large eyes indicate an emotional, sensitive nature. They will need a lot of attention, especially those with big, round eyes that appear watery. It can be emotionally exhausting and draining for the partner.

These are just some of the simple ways to read a face for relationship outlook. In more advanced forms of Face Reading, there is Combination Position or Multi Position Face Reading, which combines the various disparate features to arrive at a more detailed and exhaustive evaluation.

As such, the balance has changed. As evolution can't be help, the wise approach is to go with the flow and modify our own expectations when it comes to relationships. Along with the change in the "power" balance between men and women, we have to accept the inevitable change of not just financial responsibility, but also in terms of who gets what done However, many women who are strong individuals and who need to accomplish their own goals other than the traditional ones of being a wife, mother and homemaker, commonly want the best of both worlds. They want to pursue a successful career and yet hope to be completely coddled and taken care of by their man. However, we know from a BaZi (and practical) standpoint this does NOT work!

In the game of love, we often size up how attractive a potential partner is simply by... looks. Let's face it, as much as we try not to judge a book by its cover, as human beings it is EXTREMELY difficult not to do so!

As the saying goes, "If you can't beat them, join them". However, what we can do to improve the accuracy of our "visual" judgement is to use concepts from the science and art of Face Reading or Mian Xiang. Combining Mian Xiang with our inevitable tendencies to evaluate others solely by the way they look in the very least makes our "surface" evaluations of others more solid and accurate.

Let's take the simple and common example of sizing up a potential romantic partner for both sexes. Now, any effective utilization of Chinese Metaphysics needs to begin with setting a goal and with the end result in mind. For ladies, you first need to define what kind of a man you would like to end up with.

If you're like most people, that is, looking for a partner who is (or will be) rich enough and able to provide a life of financial ease and support, then of course you need to go for a man who has a broad, fleshy and tall nose supported by a pair of decent cheeks which are fleshy and prominent but not overly protruding nor bony. If you're looking for someone who can command considerable authority and can rise up the ranks of a civil or corporate career, a necessary attribute is a spacious forehead (without bumps, indentation or scars) of at least 4 finger spaces.

However, these qualities alone may not give you a fellow who can easily share emotions and communicate with you "on the same level". These are the additional requirements by most ladies in the current age we live in. Therefore, another criterion to fit the mould of such a man is the type of expressive eyes, which are not too small and with double eyelids. In addition, you will need to check the mouth - a mouth that is well-defined with clear borders is necessary plus a decent upper lip that is not too thin and preferably balanced with the lower lip.

And for guys, again you also need to define the criteria of your ideal romantic mate. If you want success for yourself, both financially and in your career, then your ideal mate should have a well-defined nose that would "prosper" her husband! As it is, a woman's nose is the prime indicator of the potential achievement of her man, particularly with the modern indicators of success - career, wealth and so on. A good nose of a lady who marries well should be tall and with a decent nose bridge.

Similarly, the candidate in question should also have adequate cheeks which support such the nose. However, you might want to avoid a lady with very high and prominent cheek bones as she is bound to have strong opinions and make her own decisions. These qualities, however, make a good corporate woman and one who can also "bring home the bacon" so to speak - ideal qualities if you're looking for a modern, non-traditional relationship.

Guys, while large, glassy eyes with double eyelids make your anime fantasies come true, they also make for a lady who is very emotional. This type of eyes belongs to a lady who will likely share with you her every thought, feeling, fear and paranoia. If you're the kind who's easily dragged down by constant nagging and "sharing" of thoughts and feelings, stick to someone with eyes which are not overly large or watery.
